Weekly Update 3/4/11

EVENT

Wednesday, March 9th 6.30 p.m. - 8.00 p.m.

Joyce Carol Oates

Give Me Your Heart: A Collection of Short Stories $25.00

A Widow’s Story $27.99

Please note that we cannot guarantee that Ms. Oates will be able to get to all of your copies of her books sent in for signature. We have received rather a lot, and we will have to be mindful of her schedule. If your books are not signed, you may leave them with us for the next visit - sometime in the Fall we think.

What she will be signing, as well as the above two books, is her contribution to a paperback original: The Inevitable: Contemporary Writers Confront Death. This will also be signed by Bradford Morrow who co-edited this collection. We are also hopeful that Peter Straub will be able to stop by in the next couple of weeks to sign. $17.95

Place your orders for one or all of the above books.

SIGNED COPIES NOW AVAILABLE

Linda Fairstein has signed copies of her latest thriller featuring prosecutor Alexandra Cooper. In Silent Mercy, Alex investigates two murders - one in Harlem’s Mount Neboh Baptist Church, the other at a cathedral in Little Italy. Because of the apparent differences in the victims’ beliefs, Alex is ruling out a religious motive, but she is convinced that another young woman is going to die at one of Manhattan’s many houses of worship. She also knows she’s in a race against time. $26.95

Pym by Mat Johnson tells the story of recently canned professor of American literature Chris Jaynes who is obsessed with The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe. When Jaynes discovers the manuscript of a crude slave narrative that seems to confirm the reality of Poe’s fiction, he resolves to seek out Tsalal, the remote island that Poe describes with horror. This story, described as a satire and fantasy has been called ..." a send-up of this world, the next world, and all points in between" by author Colson Whitehead. $24.00

Damage by John Lescroart is about a power, revenge, and the pursuit of justice. The Curtlees are a rich and powerful force in the San Francisco area. When the family heir, Ro Curtlee, was convicted of rape and murder a decade ago, the fallout for those who put him away was swift although eventually all managed to rebuild their lives. Now Ro Curtlee’s lawyers have won him a retrial and he has been released from jail. When two participants in the original case die, Abe Glitsky, also a participant, is convinced that Ro wants revenge. Trouble is, there is no hard evidence. $26.95

Lou Manfredo’s follow up to Rizzo’s War is here. Rizzo’s Fire finds NYPD veteran Detective Joe Rizzo investigating the murder of a recluse and its possible connection to the murder of a Broadway producer the day before. Together with his new partner, Priscilla Jackson, Rizzo once again walks the fine line between the case and NYPD politics. A Hard Boiled Crime Club Main Selection. $24.99

When the Thrill is Gone is the third Leonid McGill mystery from Walter Mosley. PI McGill is asked by a young woman with a stack of cash to make sure she doesn’t meet the same fate as her husband’s first two wives. Meanwhile, McGill is also dealing with his troubled stepson, his best friend who has been diagnosed with cancer, and his wife, who has taken a lover. A Crime Collector’s Club Main Selection. $26.95
