Weekly Update 1/8/10
SIGNED BOOKS NOW AVAILABLE
The 13th Hour by Richard Doetsch is a thriller told in reverse. Nick Quinn, accused of murdering his wife, is visited in the police interrogation room by a white-haired gentleman who asks Nick if he would save his wife if he could go back in time. Nick, being innocent, jumps at the chance and finds himself able to go back one hour at a time for a total of twelve hours. This original page-turner is a Thriller/Espionage Club Selection. $25.99
Terrific to see Jasper Fforde again who popped in to sign copies of Shades of Grey. He has not given up on Thursday Next or his Nursery Crimes, but here’s a new premise from the creative Mr. Fforde: Chromatica has long been ruled by a Colortocracy a social hierarchy based on one’s limited color perception. The story centers around Eddie Russett who has a better-than-average red perception and his upcoming engagement to Constance Oxblood which is put in jeopardy when he meets the intriguing Jane Grey and realizes that his life may be as illusory a color itself. A four-color postcard is enclosed. This U.S. Edition is the true first, although we have ordered just a few of the U.K. Edition for those of you who want to "follow the flag." $25.95
Steve Hamilton, Edgar-award winner of the Alex McKnight series, has written a stand alone thriller, The Lock Artist. Michael can do something better than anybody else: open anything, from a locked door to a padlocked safe, and this makes him a hot commodity, especially for the wrong kind of people. A Hard-Boiled Club Selection. $24.99
We have signed copies of Joyce Carol Oates’ first book of the decade! The Fair Maiden tells the story of sixteen-year-old Katya Spivak and sixty-eight-year old Marcus Kidder. This story does not go where you might expect as Oates builds suspense to a horrific climax. $22.00
The U.K. edition of The Vampire Archive (not Archives) by Otto Penzler is here. This original, oversized paperback edition is a slightly smaller in size that the U.S. edition and does not employ the two-column format of that edition. Otto will be delighted to sign this edition for you, as will our own Daniel Seitler who compiled the comprehensive bibliography. $25.00
