The very talented Sara Gran has penned the first if a new series. Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead introduces DeWitt who hopes to become as great a detective as the famous Frenchman Jacques Silette. Her first case finds her investigating the disappearance of a well-know DA in post-Katrina New Orleans. This quirky story is much loved by Ian and Sally. An Unclassifiable Club Main Selection. $24.00

Edgar Award-winner Steve Hamilton stopped by to sign copies of Misery Bay in which Alex McKnight investigates a suicide that may be tied to a rash of brutal murders. A Hardboiled Club Main Selection. $24.99

New York author Jason Starr signed copies of his latest, The Pack, about an out-of-work Dad who falls on hard times. But not for long! A chance meeting with a group of neighborhood fathers introduces him to a world of power - and terror - which may be just too much for him to handle. $25.95

Vaclav and Lena is a first novel by Haley Tanner set in the Russian immigrant community of Brighton Beach. The two title characters are childhood friends, but when Lena disappears Vaclav must go behind the scenes of this small Brooklyn community to find her. $25.00

Robopocalypse by Daniel Wilson is not our usual fare, but this looks to be one of the big hits of the Summer, so how could we resist? Set in the not-too-distant future, a sentient AI named Archos has decided that human beings are the cause of the planet’s suffering and the only solution is extermination. So it is war - between robots and humans! The film is already in development with Steven Spielberg. $25.00

SIGNED COPIES FROM THE U.K.

Now You See Me by S.J. Bolton is the fourth novel by one of our favorite authors. A young London policewoman finds herself enmeshed in a very dangerous game with a killer who appears to be copying the murders of Jack the Ripper. This is a must for Ripperologists. A British Crime Club Main Selection. $35.00

Although not a mystery, we are carrying copies of Handel’s Bestiary by Donna Leon. Leon, an opera fan, traces the history of twelve animals used in that composer’s arias. This delightful book is illustrated by Michael Sowa and contains a CD of each aria. $45.00

Denise Mina has yet to find the audience she deserves in the U.S. but The End of the Wasp Season may be the book to do it. The suicide of a local banker leaves few people mourning his demise, but DS Alex Morrow sees ties to a brutal murder in Glasgow. A British Crime Club Main Selection. $35.00

Many of you (and us) have been waiting for the next novel featuring PI Max Mingus. Voodoo Eyes by Nick Stone is here and finds Mingus still on the trail of cult leader and vicious killer, Solomon Boukman. This is a wonderful series and, no, we don’t have copies of either Mr. Clarinet or King of Swords. Wish we did. $50.00
