Author of the Week: John Rhode

JOHN RHODE

Under the pseudonym John Rhode, Cecil John Charles Street (1884-1964) was one of the most prolific and beloved writers of fair-play detective fiction, particularly in his long-running series of novels about Dr. Priestley. While not noted for briskly moving adventures, few were his equal in creating meticulously constructed, baffling plots. He also wrote as Miles Burton, and his work was highly praised by Jacques Barzun and Wendell Hertig Taylor in Catalogue of Crime.
