William Gillette. A spectacular poster of Gillette, painted by Frederic Dorr Steele. "Farewell to the Stage: William Gillette in His Famous Creation: Sherlock Holmes. Baltimore, Ford Theatre. 1930. $3,500.00
The poster is approximately 131/2" x 21" matted, framed and glazed, overall approximately 18" by 26" in excellent condition. Holmes is pictured in his rooms at 221B Baker Street in dressing gown, smoking a pipe, with his violin case close at hand. The same poster was used for all the theatres on Gillette’s tour, only the name of the theatre being changed.
