The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler is the latest Scandinavian crime thriller to make big news. Set in Sweden, it introduces Detective Inspector Joona Linna who is investigating a triple murder, all the same family. The killer is at large but it looks as if the eldest sister escaped the carnage. The son has also survived but he has shut down, comatose with shock. Linna calls on a disgraced hypnotist to help. Lars Kepler is the name of a husband and wife team and, having just read it, I can tell you that this is one of best constructed, goriest, well-translated thrillers I’ve read lately. $35.00

The basis for the film noir starring Humphrey Bogart. Gold lettering on spine partially rubbed off, as usual, else a very good near-fine, tight copy in dust jacket, which is chipped at top of spine and sunned; occasional nicks and a small closed tear. Overall about a very good copy.

The basis for the great film noir, Touch of Evil, which starred Charlton Heston, Orson Welles and Marlene Dietrich. One of the scarcest classic mystery novels of the past half-century or so. Tape residue on the endpapers and covers where flaps had been taped down, leaving small stains on the flaps as well. Apart from a tiny chip at top of front hinge, a gorgeous-looking copy externally.
